Bill McHenry with Gil Goldstein

Bill McHenry is a saxophone player and composer who lives in New York, Barcelona, and Maine. He has made 7 recordings as a leader and is known for his work with Andrew Cyrille, Paul Motian, Eric Revis, Guillermo Klein, Andrew D’Angelo, Reid Anderson, Orrin Evans, John McNeil, Ben Waltzer, Rebecca Martin, Duane Eubanks, Jamie Saft, and Ethan Iverson.

His first two albums for the Sunnyside label, Roses, and Ghosts of the Sun are with Paul Motian, Reid Anderson, and Ben Monder. 2012′s album, La Peur du Vide was recorded live at the Village Vanguard with Orrin Evans, Eric Revis, and Andrew Cyrille.

NYU Jazz piano, arranging, and composition faculty member Gil Goldstein started playing accordion at age 5, eventually studying piano and cello. By l973 he began working with Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, Pat Martino, Billy Cobham, and Lee Konitz. In l981 Gil started performing with the Gil Evans Orchestra. With Gil Evans as his mentor, Prof. Goldstein began developing his own arranging craft, eventually writing for artists including Milton Nascimento, Randy Brecker, Pat Metheny, Wallace Roney, David Sanborn, and Al Jarreau, and in 2003, winning a Grammy Award for his work with Michael Brecker.


Rediscovering the accordion years later, Gil is considered a world-class accordion performer, touring in 2000 with the French virtuoso, Richard Galliano, playing both piano and accordion. Currently, he has an active schedule arranging and producing, in addition to performing, teaching, and film scoring.
